Bio of Dushane Custom Handmade Knives

Thanks for your interest in Dushane custom handmade knives. I'm Dwayne Dushane, a member in good standing of the Texas Knifemakers and Collectors Association, I'm working on becoming a Guild member, I'm currently a probationary member of the Knifemakers Guild.  I made my first knife in 8th grade metal shop here in Andrews, TX back in 1977.  I didn't persue knifemaking again until 1986 when a back injury kept me home for a while. As I got interested in knifemaking I started meeting people, two of which were Johnny Stout and Weldon Whitley.  These guys are the ones that really started teaching me about the art of knifemaking.  But I healed up and back to the oil field I went with little time to build knives. In June 94 I re-injured my back and since then I've had nine surgeries and I've decided to make knives for a living.  I started building them again in December 1995.   I love to create things with my hands and The Good Lord has blessed me with the ability to do so.   I hope to continually get better and learn all the different facets of the trade.

I use the stock removal method and do all phases of the knives myself except making my own Damascus, which I'm currently getting into & hope to be using my own here before long.   I use materials of the highest quality that I possibly can. All woods and other handle materials are stabilized as much as possible.  I use ATS-34, 440C, D-2 and Damascus from top notch makers.  I will try to use other materials that are not listed if requested.  The knives on my web site or in my brochure are just a sample of what I make.  If there is something you don't see call me or send E-mail to see if I can build it for you.  I know there are a great deal of talented makers out there, but I would love to build that special knife for you or someone you love.  Thank you for your interest in my knives, and may God richly bless you and your family.
